Coral reefs protect our coastal areas by reducing the power of waves hitting the coast which prevents erosion. Coral reefs also play a huge role in our underwater ecosystems by providing shelter, food, and protection for many different marine animals. Nearly 500 million people worldwide depend on coral reefs for jobs and food.
I was born in Hawaii on the island of Oahu so the ocean has always been a big part of my life. Growing up I loved to surf, spear fish, paddle board, and pretty much any other water based activity. One thing I was always taught as a kid was to respect all forms of life and nature which is why conserving our planet‘s coral reefs is so important to me.
A big way to help the cause is to donate to the varies charities dedicated to protecting and conserving our coral reefs. For other ways you can help please view the list below
